A highly personal and totally different album direction for Kanye. The cover explains it. This album has great depth in the sound of the 808s (slang for 80s synth technology). Yes Auto-Tune is the only reason Kanye can basically sing through this whole album. Dare I even call some of the sounds Alternative-ish? I don't feel it is a complete departure for him, I think he'll come back to his first album's sound, but he'll always integrate singing into his future albums in some shape and form because he'll be praised highly for what he's done here.
